Is start++ compatible with windows 7, and if it isn't will it eventually be compatible?

I'd much rather use my own text editor over the "Startlet Javascript Editor". When trying to get new search startlets to work, it is a pain to have to keep opening up the Start++ GUI just to use a feature-less text editor. What I typically end up doing is adding in a "WScript.Echo("pausing");" somewhere in my script, save that script to a new .js file, debug and develop using that new script file, and then paste my final code back into Start++. I have to set it all up again whenever I need to test a new search query.

So, my request is that you save the user code stubs to separate files rather than SearchActions.xml.

Another important (perhaps more important) result of implementing this feature would be increased reliability. If a user changes the search startlet action to something other than "Script" and then closes out of the Start++ GUI, then all their code is lost! I did this accidentally once...

Workaround for interested users: go get Dropbox (or something similar), copy your Start++ AppData folder to your DropBox folder, make a junction in the AppData folder pointing back to the Start++ folder in your Dropbox. Now all revisions to SearchActions.xml will be saved to the cloud.

bug report: special characters not escaped in the creation of search startlet javascript

"IErrorInfo.GetDescription failed with E_FAIL(0x80004005)". I get this when there are unescaped quotes in the javascript arrays (like SYSTEM_ITEMAUTHORS...). So any matched file with an author field that contains a quote will cause the start++ search startlet to fail.

"Expected hexadecimal digit". When specifying a folder constraint in my search query, the "SYSTEM_ITEMFOLDERPATHDISPLAY" variable gets added to the generated script when the search startlet is run. The problem is that this variable is filled with "\"s rather than the "/"s used everywhere else. So it is a big problem when you have a folder that starts with a "x"... that gets treated like a hex escape sequence, thus the error message.

There may be others... but I think it would just be easier to escape obsessively all characters that can be escaped rather than try and track down every possible problem.

Computer problem

I all,
I have a problem on my Windows Vista that began afetr the purchase of an external Hard Disk Freecom.
A few days afetr the purchase I disconnected it while it was writing and, since that moment, every time I connect and disconnect it, the PC go to freeze mode for 5 minutes.
The same thing happen even if the hard disk is disconnected: every time I start windows it go to freeze a little after the password, and every time I connect and disconnect a usb device.
I have looked for the solution everywhere, updated windows, unistalled and installed the hard disk from the device manager but I solved the problem only when I restored a recent backup.
Yesterday the Hard disk was writing a backup while Vista was installing the updates; at the end of the proceure windows restarted automatically and the problem began again!!!
The Pc go to freeze when it starts, every time I connect or disconnect the hard disk, an usb earphone that has always worked switch on but there is no audio and I don't know how many others usb devices will have problems.
Has anyone an idea to solve this problem before I throw out of the window Vista or the the hard disk?

Help Firefox

I often use Firefox, a great browser, and sometimes go to Tools - Options - Security - saved password to read and erase the passwords for the sites that I visit.
Do you know if there is a way to shorten this path, maybe insert something in the toolbar to speed up this task?

I was wondering if it would be possible to crate a command that would open Firefox and go to a predetermined set of websites. For example I would type mail in the start menu and it would open up Firefox with Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail each in a tab. If this is possible how would i go about doing it?

Any chance you can release sudo as a standalone exe?

At the moment I'm running from batch file but that creates a blinking cmd window which I dont want to happen.

Besides would be easier to use if it was an exe then I could keep on thumbdrive to make live a bit easier.

Ok Brandon, can u plz take a look at this:

I made a playalbum thing and then changed the name of the files that were in the album, but now WMP "can't find the items". I believe that it's because cause of the store thing but I'm not sure. Do you know how to fix this?

ftp site in Window Explorer NOT iexplorer

I type this command ftp://username:password@xx.xx.xx.xxx/ into the search box and get my ftp site open in Ecplorer (folders and all)

When I put this command into start++ it opens in iexplorer.

What do I need to change in start++ ?

Command startlet to launch application?

Huge fan of this program, which has become the main UI by which I interact with my computer -- thanks for creating it.

I've been able to assign Command Startlets to launch webpages (with and without arguments.) But I'm having some difficulty assigning a Command Startlet to launch an application (a batchfile, in case it matters.) What can I put in the Command field to accomplish this? I've tried:

Filename.bat

C:\Foldername\Filename.bat

"C:\Foldername\Filename.bat"

Since winword.exe seems to work, I even tried moving Filename.bat to the same folder winword.exe is in, just in case Start++ is looking for apps there. No dice. All four of these efforts have the same result: when I submit the shortcut text to Start++ and press enter, Start++ itself launches but Filename.bat does not.

I'll bet I'm missing something simple. What am I doing wrong?

Exit and Restart Start++ 0.8.1.0 disables Start Gadgets

Select Exit Start++ then restarting disables all the Start Gadgets. It's as if they don't exist. Rebooting fixes this problem.

Disable "start with windows"

I was just wondering if you could add a option so that we can turn off that start++ automatically start when windows start.

I'm using a program to delay my startup programs so that vista will load faster. But since start++ automatically start with windows, the program can't control it and delay the start.

But for all I know there may be a way to turn it off already, but after looking for it everywhere. Maybe you can help me.

Start Menu Background when typing

Search always opens a new window, Startmenu integration won't work

Hi,

before I install Start++ on my machine, I tested it in a Virtual Machine.
It seems, that the start menu integration of start++ won't work. Every search or other command opens a new window, not like on this page.
Which means, if i type "g start++" only a new IE7 windows opens with google search for start++.

Is it a configuration problem, or another? Maybe there are compatibility issues with the "old" Windows Theme? Is the Aero Theme necessary for start++?

Vista Business English, with all updates, c++ library is installed, start++ 0.7.5.

Any ideas?

Weather Debug Error

when I type "weather" in the start search area I get a "just-in time debugging" window. If I close it I am unable to use the weather feature it closes. I can not change the location of the weather feature either because of the error.

Any ideas why this is doing this, I just installed the program and haven't used it before.

I am running windows vista 32 bit, with 1 gig mempry, 3.0 ghz cpu.

Outlook new item creation

Hi,

I been searching for a tool that can enter data to outlook appointments, task and contacts from outside. I tested and actually use fingertips but could be great to integrate that kind of functionality to start++. Even if there is posible to create a parsing method like google calendar, or add a simpler form as a gadget. with some preset like new task in a specific category.

Can i make links open in firefox?

Is it possible? Because i have firefox set to have all of it's defaults and when i click on a link in the start menu, IE comes up and errors start flyin.

Also, when i clicked on ' report bugs on the forum' link, i got a window saying that microsoft.net framework encountered an error. here is wut it said.

Startlets not working if Start++ is not running

In the options tab, it says that the startlets can work even if Start++ is not running if the check box is checked, but the minute I close Start++, the command startlet I created will not work, although the command startlets that came with the program originally do work. Is this a bug or something?
