    Thanks!  My friends at Tusubira and I greatly appreciate it :)

    Conveniently enough, I recently posted an early Windows 7 compatible build here:

    Brandon:

    That's the current behavior on Windows 7, until I find time to figure out a way to make the Vista behavior work with the new start menu in Win7.

    no one wants the Vista behaviour in Windows 7, the windows 7 behaviour is so much better, you should find a way to adopt that.

    Any Update ?! id really love to use Start++ with Win7, its so beautiful, dont let it die. Would be good for the community to release the source if you dont plan any more updates.

     I'm not sure what you mean by that.  If you don't want the Start Gadgets or to have the app running the background, you can uncheck the box in the Options panel that says "Keep Start++ running in the background."

    However, without it running, you don't get any custom UI in response to what you type, and there are cases where commands won't work because they will conflict with other program results.  For example, typing "play" might surface Windows Media Player as the default action instead of the Start++ "play" command.  If Start++ is running it can avoid this problem.  Another option is to just delete any of the Start Gadgets you don't want appearing.

    In the new Win7 build I have updated some of the built-in Start Gadgets since some of the web services being used before stopped working properly.  In the future I hope to improve the way these work to make them less dependent on the web page their hosting (and instead have the UI defined locally and just have gadgets query web services for the data they need).

    Brandon,

    Thank you.  I'll start testing ASAP and let you know how it goes.

    I didn't see this because I thought I had selected to have the forum notify me of replies...I'll keep a closer eye on the thread going forward.

    Re: Start++ & Windows 7

    Brandon,

    I've installed the new build on Win 7 32bit Home Premium and the Command Startlets (only thing I really use) are working perfectly (at least for the 5 minutes I've been testing them).  I added a couple of my own search engines and all seems to be working well with or without Start++ running in the tray.

    Thanks!

    Vaughn

    P.S. I'm not sure that the email subscription function is working in the forums.  At least it doesn't seem to be working for me.

    Re: Start++ & Windows 7

    I've tried your latest build 2 on Windows 7 and there is an issue that I am seeing. When I use the SUDO command, it works but the UAC confirmation dialog is minimized and I have to switch to it on the taskbar manually. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a quick way to SUDO something. The test machine is a new Win7 install with the default UAC settings. Only other thing of note is that Aero is off but the secure desktop diming is still on.

    thanks,

    david

    Re: Start++ & Windows 7

    I'm running Start++ 0.8.2.1 under Windows 7, and all seems to work well,

    except that every time I type a command in the Start box, there is a beep afterward.

    This occurs whether the command is a Start++ shortcut or not.  (For instance, Start + "Windows Explorer" launches Explorer, but beeps.)

    If I have the Start++ program exit, the beep goes away.

    Does anyone else see (hear) this?  Or any ideas what could be wrong?  Thanks.

    Re: Start++ & Windows 7

    I installed on Win7 x64.  Seems to work, but with some issues.  I create a shortcut that has this as the command:

     shell:ChangeRemoveProgramsFolder

    This works from the start menu but not from the run box.  When used from the run box it opens the start++ config page.

    1 small suggestions, can you add the ability to use the contents of the clipboard as an argument or command

    Brandon, I'm so addicted to the functionality of Start ++ that I just donated as an encouragement for you to keep working on Windows 7 compatibility!

    Maybe the others longing for Win 7 integration will follow suit!

    Thanks for a great tool.

    I second that! I did install it in Windows 7 x64 and it works fine while the quick tests :) thanks! :)

     If I remember, this was also an issue with Start++ in Vista as well.

    I just tried that in both the Start Menu Search box as well as the Run command, and it worked in both.  Windows 7 Ultimate x64
