Mr. Paddock, may I suggest you include something like "play [all|artist|album|genre] random" to the next release?

Hey, is it possible to configure it so using the playartist or playalbum command plays it in another media player besides WMP11?

Hi there: Thanks for developing all these apps. How about making Start++ capable of triggering actions through a combo of key hits + typed text strings, like MacroMaker, found here: http://members.ij.net/anthonymathews/MacroMaker.htm ? Regards

I'm getting the hook.dll error as well on 32-bit Vista. Gonna try a fresh install to see if that fixes it.

Brandon said:

Sorry guys, thought I had that fixed. Emperor - 0.77 is the same as 0.76 in that regard, not sure why it would be different at all. There's a workaround here: http://brandontools.com/forums/permalink/239/282/ShowThread.aspx#282

Hi Brandon, I REALLY love this tool, however, since installing this new release, the response time between typing a shortcut and Start++ registering it is REALLY slow (1-2 seconds). I never had this before.. Basically, I type the shortcut, and straight away a small Start++ icon appears, but if I push "Enter" here, it does not register the shortcut. If I wait a little bit, it changes to the all-so-familiar large icon that actually works... Any suggestions? Many Thanks, keep up the great work. Rob

Brandon said:

Hi Rob, You're right that typing shortcuts with no parameters do have a slight delay now (although I don't think it's quite 1-2 seconds. Should be half a second or so). It's a side effect of changes I made to make queries *with* parameters (particulary the "gadgets") work better. I will work to tweak that this weekend and try to do a minor update to address that and one or two other small issues. One workaround for now would be to press the spacebar after typing your shortcut, which should force it to update immediately.

Hi Brandon, Thanks for the reply, for now I have just reverted back to 0.79. There may have been a little bit of exaggeration on the timing :) Thanks for your support and again, great work! :)

Great tool. I used to use slick run, but on vista, it never launched apps with command line parameters correctly. Same thing with Launchy. This works, though! Hooray for connecting to a remote machine with remote desktop by typing rd <machine name>! Command line parameters FTW!

Damn, well done. Just a thought, though, why do the links for googling stuff open in IE, rather than your primary set browser?

PY - If you type "g something" and press enter, it should open up the Google search page in your default browser. However, if you click a link inside the "gadget" itself, it will open in IE because IE is the one rendering the gadget. I plan to look into fixing this in a future update.

I recently saw this on Lifehacker. Though a fan of Launchy, I took a look at Start++, and I love it. I didn't realize that the Vista search bar had this much functionality (I've only had it for a few months), and Start++ is the icing on the cake. Thanks!

hey, this is excellent! i love it! the only problem is that i am unable to use the 'play' function. whenever i write 'play (artist) in the search bar, it says : 'no media found'. Do i have to have the media in a particular folder for this to work?? thanks George
Sat, Jun 28 2008 6:28 AM

Brandon said:

Hi George - You don't need to have it in a specific folder, but whatever folder it is in must be indexed by Windows Search. If you type "Indexing" into the start menu you should see the Indexing Options control panel show up. From there you can modify the indexed locations and include whatever folder your media is in. By default, the only indexed directories are under x:\Users (which includes the default Music / Documents / Pictures folders, etc) Let me know if that helps you!
