Twilver

Twilver (working name) is an in-development Twitter client written as a combination of Azure services and a Silverlight application.

Twilver UI

At this stage of development I would consider Twilver to be "experimental."  It is currently built against the Silverlight 3.0 Beta, which is a developer beta.  That means you'll need to install the Silverlight 3 Beta SDK or developer runtime in order to access it.  At this point I am not recommending anyone do that, but I'm also not going to stop anyone from accessing the latest build of Twilver.  In fact, if you have the 3.0 Beta runtime, you can try out Twilver here:

http://twilver.cloudapp.net

Current Version (Build 14):

  • Supports login via Twitter OAuth API
  • View Twitter updates from friends and yourself (Twitter's "Home" feed)
  • View tweets that mention you via the @UserName syntax
  • Post a new tweet.  Submit button is disabled if you exceed 140 characters.
  • Very basic progress indication and error UI.
  • Refresh button.
  • Install button (to enable Silverlight 3.0 "out of browser" support).

Planned features (short-term):

  • Mousewheel / Windows Touch scrolling
  • Retry support to reduce errors / workaround Twitter hiccups
  • Caching of tweets, paged retrieval, list more than 50 messages
  • Link support (click links in tweets)
  • Silverlight 2.0 port?
  • Reply to tweets
  • Re-tweet
  • Display client name (i.e. "via Twitterfon") in list view
  • Zoom'able UI
  • Support more than 2 line tweets and other layout improvements
  • Direct Message viewing
  • Direct Message sending
  • Options / Settings page
  • UI style / theme improvements, such as pretty tabs at the top
  • Highlight replies

Future features (longer term):

  • Conversation view
  • Search / Trends
  • Filters
  • Roaming settings
  • URL Shrink support
  • Post images
  • Notifications
  • Highlight or enlarge newest items
  • Gratuitous animations

Other ideas / Requests:

  • Facebook support
  • Multiple accounts?
